人は物語を作る生き物である。
語られたストーリーは数えきれず、時を超えて輝く作品もまた数多い。
だが、それらすべての物語がひとつひとつの世界となっていることを知っている者は少ない。

悪魔の書架というものがある。
人間の作り出した物語すべてを管理、保存する場所だ。
管理人、本の悪魔は物語によって創造された世界――作品世界を見守っている。

だが、その作品世界を侵すものがいる。
紙魚と呼ばれるその存在は、物語を汚染し、破綻させ、ついには消滅させてしまう。
本の悪魔はこれを防ぐため、才能ある人間と契約し、紙魚を倒す使命を授けた。

ある日、悪魔の書架に喚ばれる主人公。
彼は、大切な思い出を失っていることに気がつき、悪魔と契約する。
記憶の謎が、この書架にあると信じて。
