How to Activate Split Screen on Redmi Note 11

This article details how to enable split-screen on Redmi Note 11 for simultaneous use of two apps. Android 11 and later devices allow this feature, but on devices with 4GB RAM or less, manufacturers limit its availability.

You can use split-screen mode on your smartphone to open two apps simultaneously, such as chatting on any social media app and watching a YouTube video at the same time.

As we know since Android 11, many smartphone manufacturers have started to cut features for phones that only have 4GB RAM and below. It is quite unfortunate, Android which is famous for having abundant features has finally become like an iPhone that has limited features.

Moreover, what is sacrificed is the Split screen feature which is very important for Android users. Hopefully Google and Xiaomi will be more concerned with features in the future.

Well, for those of you Redmi Note 11 users who don’t get the Split Screen feature, don’t worry, it’s easy to do multitasking. Let’s look at the following guide.

How to Enable Split Screen on Xiaomi Redmi Note 11

The Redmi Note 11 is the latest smartphone from Xiaomi that comes with the MIUI 13 operating system based on Android 11. This phone has a screen that already supports a 90Hz refresh rate so that videos and games look smoother.

In addition to having a Screenshot feature, there is also a Split Screen feature that allows you to run two applications simultaneously. Here’s how to enable split screen on Redmi Note 11.

Split Screen Through Settings

  1. Go to the Home Screen and tap the Settings app.
  2. Next select Additional Settings and then tap Button Shortcuts.
  3. Scroll down and select Open Split Screen.
  4. Please select one of the available options such as the Home button, Menu button or Back button.
  5. After that, open the first application, for example Telegram.
  6. Then long tap on the Home button (if you previously selected this).
  7. Your Xiaomi screen will automatically split into two and select the second application, for example Chrome.

Using Split Screen Shortcut App

However, it is unfortunate that the smartphone I am using does not have a split screen feature, maybe because it only has 4GB of RAM. But you can use this split screen feature with the help of a third party application called Split Screen Shortcut.

  1. The first step is to download and install the Split Screen Shortcut application.
  2. After that, open the application and activate the Split Screen toggle.
  3. Tap Open Android settings and choose the Downloaded Apps option then select Split Screen.
  4. Activate the Use Split Screen option then check to confirm approval and tap OK.
  5. Now that the Split Screen feature on Xiaomi phones is active, you can either long press the Home button, Back, or long press the Menu button.

Now try running split screen on one of the applications, for example Whatsapp. Remember, not all applications can do in split screen mode. So that all applications and games can support it, please see the guide below.

Solve apps that don’t support Split Screen on Xiaomi

As I explained above, not all apps can share the screen. Well, to solve this, follow these steps.

  1. Go to Settings then tap About Phone.
  2. In the MIUI version, tap 7 times until the information appears that you are now a developer!.
  3. After that, open Additional Settings then select Developer Options.
  4. Then activate the Force activity option to be resized.
  5. Done, now restart your Xiaomi phone.
  6. After restarting, try opening the unsupported application earlier and apply the split screen.

That’s how to use a split screen or multi window on Redmi Note 11. Hopefully in the future Xiaomi will be kind enough to embed the Split Screen feature in the next software update.
